JIRA is a powerful tool that can be used for countless purposes in an organization of any kind but after some time we know that it all comes down to reporting. Creating the right report is the gateway to visibility into your data and this is the key to making accurate decisions.

One of the requests we get often from our customers is to identify the bottlenecks in their processes. All JIRA workflows has a number of steps and each issue gets assigned to one person after another but as the number of issues grow, workflows get longer and teams get bigger; it becomes impossible to see the bottlenecks using conventional issue navigator filters or dashboards. All the information you need lies not only in the issues themselves but also in the issues' histories. That is why we created "Time In Status".

"Time In Status" is a JIRA plug-in that allows you to report on issues' transition history and assignment history. You select a project, a user or go advanced and give it a JQL, then it gives you a list of all issues in that filter with durations of stay on each status or each assignee as columns.

This report gives you the clean and summarized information to see the bottlenecks. You can see which status is the one each issue spent most time on or which assignee is the one that each issue spent most time on. You can see where you should direct your effort to improve.

Even this simple promise gives you a lot of power to see into your processes but the plug-in also has many features to make the reports suit your needs:

  • As mentioned above you can configure to report based on statuses or assignees.
  • You can see durations for individual issues or average times for your issue set.
  • You can report based on a 7x24 calendar or define and use your own business calendar.
  • You can include your system or custom fields as columns in the report.
  • An Excel export function is also available which makes it possible to manipulate your data in Excel.
