Introducing SearchMate: Advanced JQL Search for Linked Issues & Dependency Tracing in Jira

Have you ever tried to find every story blocked by an open bug, only to get lost in complex queries? Or maybe you’ve struggled to manually trace a chain of dependencies across multiple projects just to see the full impact of a delay?

While native Jira search is powerful for finding individual issues, tracing dependencies manually is slow, frustrating, and easy to get wrong.

Today, we are happy to announce the solution. Introducing SearchMate – Advanced JQL Search for Linked Issues. Our new app is now available on the Atlassian Marketplace.

What is SearchMate?

SearchMate is a Jira Cloud app that helps you find, trace, and understand relationships between work items (issues). It enhances Jira’s native search to provide a structured way to explore issue dependencies, going far beyond what standard JQL offers.

The best part? Instead of adding a separate interface you have to learn, SearchMate integrates directly into your standard Jira Issue Search screen. It is a seamless JQL power-up for your Jira instance. With it, you can instantly discover how issues are connected, whether they are blocking, related, duplicated, or cloned. Also, you can view these connections across all projects from one place.

Key Features

We designed SearchMate to stop the struggle with complex syntax and give you immediate visibility into your project’s structure.

Find Blockers Instantly

No need for manual checking. Use advanced JQL to filter issues based on links. You can instantly list stories blocked by open Bugs, spot orphaned tasks missing Epic links, or track critical dependencies across different projects. It answers the question “Where are we blocked?” in seconds.

Smart Link Resolution

SearchMate gives you flexible control over your dependency tracing. You can search by Link Name to automatically find connections in both directions, or simply add ‘Inward’ or ‘Outward’ to filter for specific relationships when you need precision.

Multi-Level Tracing & Nested Queries

Native JQL restricts you to direct links, but SearchMate allows you to go deeper. By nesting search functions, you can trace dependencies beyond the immediate layer. Easily identify the “blocker of a blocker” or map downstream effects to understand the secondary impact of any change.

With SearchMate, now you can find critical dependencies and issue relationships a lot easier and faster. Visit SearchMate on the Atlassian Marketplace to try it for free, or book an online demo meeting to see it in action.
